Bachelor of Science in Economics, Mathematics, and Statistics [B. Sc. (E.M.S.)] program is a three-year undergraduate course that has directed its focus on enhancing the mathematical skills of the students to help them in mathematical modeling, decision making, and various other mathematical processes related to the data from the market.
Economics: It is a course that sensitizes the students to the determinants and controlling factors of production, distribution, and consumption of goods from the smallest organizations to the national regimes. The course offers a description of ideas related to Macro and Micro-Economics with their focus on mathematical applications and also to detailed econometric models. The major thrust areas of the course are Business Economics, Managerial Economics, Economics of Infrastructure, Monetary Economics, International Business Environment, Public Economics, Corporate Economics, Mathematics for Economists, Rural Development and Cooperation, Economics of Tourism, Human Resource Management, Statistics for Economics, Karnataka Economy and Hospitality Economics.
Mathematics: The course in Mathematics is designed to strengthen the concepts and improve knowledge. The academic curriculum has both theory and practical sessions. The course aims at easy explication of formidable mathematical concepts. It helps the students to enjoy Mathematics, pose and solve meaningful problems, use abstraction to perceive relationships and structure as well as understand the basic structure of the subject. The course enables the students to develop and appreciate various concepts in Mathematics like Analysis, Algebra, Differential Equations, Numerical methods. FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) tools like SCILAB and MAXIMA are used in the mathematical learning environment.
Statistics: Statistics is a branch of Mathematics that is quintessential to research. The course focuses on the interpretation of data which is a key function in data analysis. It aims to train students regarding various statistical concepts that are concerned with the collection, classification, tabulation, analysis, and interpretation of data. The course has a theoretical component and a practical component to it.
Eligibility: Pass in 10+2 Pre-University Course/ Equivalent Course recognized by Bangalore University. Generally, a candidate to opt for a subject should have studied that subject at the qualifying examination. It is compulsory to have studied Mathematics at the 11th & 12th Exam.
