NEP B. Sc. P.M. (Bachelor of Science in Physics & Mathematics)

The Bachelor of Science program is a four-year undergraduate honours program course that is designed to provide a comprehensive foundation to the subject and to help students develop the ability to successfully continue with further studies and research in the subject while they are equipped with the required skills at various stages. The framework is designed to equip students with valuable cognitive abilities and skills so that they are successful in meeting the diverse needs of professional careers in a developing and knowledge-based society. The curriculum framework takes into account the need to maintain globally competitive standards of achievement in terms of the knowledge and skills in the subject, as well as to develop scientific orientation, the spirit of enquiry problem-solving skills, and human and professional values which foster rational and critical thinking in student.

Physics is a scientific discipline perceived and understood by interacting with our surroundings. Physics as a science mainly deals with the interactions of energy, matter, space, and time, and it is especially in the fundamental mechanisms that underlie every phenomenon. For instance, the phenomena of formation of rainbow, occurrence eclipse, the fall of things from up to down, the cause of sunset and sunrise, formation of shadow, and many more. This search for understanding the principles, describing the basic phenomena in nature essentially defines the realm of physics.

The BSc course offered by the Department of Science at the Christ Academy Institute for Advanced Studies as per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has Physics as a major subject for both the 3-year undergraduate program as well as a 4-year Honours program. BSc Physics Honours is a 4-years undergraduate course that is pursued by students who are interested in an in-depth knowledge of the principles of Physics and its practical application & theories. 

The course offers many topics of specialization in various fields with an eye-opener to both the observable and the invisible universe. A deep understanding of various concepts and the underlying interdependence of the various fields covering a wide range of phenomena, from the smallest subatomic particles to the largest galaxies. 

The objective of this course is to give students the necessary information and practical skills to prepare them for jobs as professionals in a variety of companies and research institutions. The study of application-oriented topics is also prioritized to lay the groundwork for skill acquisition. Learners must be equipped with solid subject knowledge as well as the skills needed for employment in teaching, industry, and research. The competition of the course can lead to jobs in research institutions, the instrumentation industry, and interested individuals can pursue Doctoral studies after one year of post-graduation in the topic.

Physics graduates can find ample career openings both in public as well as private sector enterprises. They can apply for all governmental jobs that insist on graduation as the basic qualification. One can find various opportunities in governmental organizations like DRDO, VSSC, ISRO, SSPL, etc as well as in the public sector and in the Indian defense. 

Mathematics: The course in Mathematics is designed to strengthen the concepts and improve knowledge. The academic curriculum has both theory and practical sessions. The course aims at easy explication of formidable mathematical concepts. It helps the students to enjoy Mathematics, pose and solve meaningful problems, use abstraction to perceive relationships and structure as well as understand the basic structure of the subject. The course enables the students to develop and appreciate various concepts in Mathematics like Analysis, Algebra, Differential Equations, Numerical methods. FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) tools like SCILAB and MAXIMA are used in the mathematical learning environment.
