About CMI
In cooperation with Palackal, Thoma Malpan and Thoma Porukara, Kuriakose Elias founded an Indian religious congregation for men, now known as the ‘Carmelites of Mary Immaculate’ (CMI). He believed that intellectual development and the education of women was the first step towards overall social welfare. Towards this end he founded the ‘Congregation of the Mother of Carmel’ (CMC), the first religious congregation for women. Kuriakose Elias attained eternal peace on 3rd January 1871, aged 66, Kuriakose Elias was beatified at Kottayam on 8th February 1986, and later on 23rd November, 2014 he was canonized at St. Peter’s Square by Pope Francis.

Welcome to Christ Academy Institute for Advanced Studies!
Christ Academy Institute for Advanced Studies (CAIAS), affiliated to Bangalore University, is a unique academic community that has a great heart and passion for serving the needs of its students. It has been a privilege and a pleasure to see how much this fraternity has grown academically and socially during these years as the college renders valuable service to the society at large. Christ Academy Institute for Advanced Studies is much more than a cluster of lifeless concrete blocks in the midst of greeneries and surrounded waterscapes. It is a great academic fraternity formed as a part of a precious CMI heritage, sustained by the ardent love of knowledge. Christ Academy Institute for Advanced Studies, a minority Catholic educational institution, shows its preferential love for young men and women who come to it from the multiple spectra of caste, creed and gender. The college instils in them the values of life, and makes them fully conscious of their potential of their commitment towards the society. Students are accepted and cherished as they are, and are helped to grow in their cultural, social and religious traditions.

It is the history of the formation of a community ignited by the light of wisdom; the history of a generation who designed their lives in faith and raised their children as per the promptings of the spirit of St. Chavara, our Founder. It is the fulfilment of the dream of great CMI visionaries. Since its inception, the college has been rendering valuable service in higher education to the advancement of the educationally, socially and economically backward people in and around the suburbs of Bangalore. The growth of academic programs indicates a continuous journey beyond the threshold of mediocrity to soar into an ever-continuing explorative experience in quality education.
At this point of time when the whole world is battling the COVID 19 pandemic, it is a time to deepen our conviction about the divine providence of the Almighty. As the new ways of being and living with ‘the new normal’, we experience systemic changes in the approaches to education. Wesley Clark was named Senior Advisor to the President in May 2018. An expert in corporate law, he teaches a wide range of courses including Contracts, Sales, Closely Held Business Organizations, Publicly Traded Corporations, Mergers & Acquisitions, International Law and International Securities Regulation.

Betty Bowman joined the faculty in 2002, and received tenure there in 2007. Before joining the faculty, she was a visiting assistant professor at Syracuse University College of Law. Prior to that, she was a legal consultant with JPMorgan Chase; a contract attorney for Cravath, Swaine & Moore; and an assistant prosecutor for the Ministry of the Attorney General in Toronto, Canada.
