Dr. Monika Mishra
Assistant Professor
A gold medalist in both her BA in English Literature at Ravenshaw University and her MA at Utkal University, Dr. Monika Mishra went on to complete an MPhil with a dissertation exploring the female gaze in Hollywood cinema. Dr. Mishra completed her Ph.D. from the National Institute of Science Education and Research, HBNI, India in April, 2025. Her work focuses on looking at the issues of climate change through the lens of intersectionality. She is especially interested in the way the second-person narrative point of view “you” affords multiple positioning for actual readers and enables them to empathize with and identify the “other” in Black science fiction and fantasy texts. Dr. Mishra was one of the four recipients of the Graduate Student Travel Award for presenting a paper on “Second-Person Point of View as a Narrative Technique for Empathizing with and Identifying the ʻOtherʼ in N.K. Jemisinʼs The Fifth Season (2015)” at the University of Chichester, England organized by the International Society for the Study of Narrative. Her work has been published in the scopus-indexed journals, Critique: Studies in Contemporary Fiction and Science Fiction Studies.
