Profile

Dr. Aiswarya R. Rao

Assistant Professor of English

Dr. Aiswarya R. Rao is an accomplished Assistant Professor of English Language & Literature, distinguished researcher, and classically trained vocalist, bringing over 12 years of extensive teaching experience across reputed higher education institutions. Her professional commitment includes educating students through knowledgeable lectures, lively discussions, and specialized group activities, focusing on diversifying and adapting instruction to serve all students. She possesses a proven track record in curriculum development, academic mentoring, and departmental administration.

The core area of research is Revisionist Literatures, an exploration of how established narratives and cultural traditions—specifically Indian epics like The Mahabharata and The Ramayana—are re-imagined and subverted to provide alternative perspectives. The doctoral thesis, “Re-Visioning Epics: A Study of Select Indian Novels”, investigates this process by focusing on the politics of adaptation, challenging the idea of a fixed “ur-text” and emphasizing the fluidity of oral traditions and intertextual discourses. This research gives voice to marginalized characters and explores narrative techniques and gender dynamics in works by authors such as Pratibha Ray, M. T. Vasudevan Nair, Anand Neelakantan, and Kavita Kane.

Scholarly expertise spans gender studies, digital humanities, posthumanism, and cultural studies, with specialized research into digital patriarchy and gendered AI, and significant contributions to academic discourse through presentations on Malayalam cinema and contemporary digital culture. Beyond academia, she is a versatile independent musician proficient in Carnatic and Hindustani traditions, dedicated to music pedagogy, professional performance, and innovative musical collaborations.
