Circulation: Policies and Guidelines
The Library’s circulation services manage the lending and returning of books and materials, serving as the primary link between users and the collection through activities such as Member registration, checking items in/out, renewals, handling fines, and managing user accounts.
Circulation Rules and Regulations
- The issue/return of books will ordinarily commence 30 minutes after the scheduled opening time. It will be stopped 30 minutes before the library’s scheduled closing time, as mentioned by the Institute.
- Users must present their library card to borrow and return books.
- When borrowing a book, a member must scrutinise it to ensure there is no mutilation or defacement. If such defects are found, the borrower must immediately bring them to the attention of the library staff and request that they be noted. Otherwise, at the time of returning the book, the borrower to whom the book was issued last will be held responsible.
- Books in the general shelf are generally issued for 15 days to students and 30 days to faculty and administrative staff. The Librarian may recall books on loan to members at any time.
- Books under the SC/ST Book Bank category are issued for the semester.
- A borrower shall not, in any case, sub-lend any book borrowed from the library to any other person or institution. Every library member shall be responsible for the safe custody of the library book borrowed by him/her for study in the reading room or for use at home.
- A late fee of Rs. 2/- per day per book will be charged from all borrowers who retain books beyond the due date.
- After borrowing/returning a book at the circulation desk, the user is responsible for checking their account in the Online Catalogue.
- In case of loss of pages from any book, the last borrower will be held responsible and must replace the book with a new copy of the latest edition.
- In the event of a book loss, the member shall be required to replace the current edition of the document. If the book is out of print, reimbursement of two times (2×) the cost mentioned in the Accession Register shall be charged, along with processing charges of Rs. 100/- per book and any overdue charges.
- Library reference resources such as encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, handbooks, directories, bibliographies, project reports, and dissertations are not available for checkout.
- The Librarian may recall any book from any member at any time, and the member shall return the same immediately.
